Update on California Court Changes (Aug 2021):
As many of your are aware, the background screening industry has been fighting access issues across the State of California. In August of 2021, we lost access to full date of birth on the public access terminals in LA County. This change didn’t have substantial impacts, as month and year of birth were still available.
This week, we were alerted that month and year of birth have been completely removed from the public access terminals in Los Angeles County as of close of business on 2/23/2024. This means that for all name match records, and possible records, copies of the court files must be ordered via the court clerk in order to confirm if records are a match. Clerks have also begun restricting records requests to five (5) files per day, and will be charging access fees for any and all files requested. Unfortunately, this change may lead to increased turnaround times for records in Los Angeles County, and increased docket fees. Turnaround times for applicants with clear records in L.A. County should not be affected.
Occuscreen, along with the Professional Background Screeners Association (PBSA) and other industry partners, are working diligently to overturn these changes in the State of California. We will continue to communicate any further information we receive.
